McClymonds named Distinguished Company

Portersville business honored

The Moraine Trails Council Boy Scouts of America has selected McClymonds Supply & Transit of Portersville to receive the 2015 Distinguished Citizens Company of the Year.

Mark McClymonds, company owner, will accept the award Thursday at the ceremonial dinner alongside Citizen of the Year winner Cathy Glasgow. The meal will be hosted at the Pittsburgh Marriott North at Cranberry Woods.

Ray Tennent, scout executive and CEO, said the award winners are selected by previous honorees, and it is based on community contribution.

“The Company of Year is selected based on the company contributing to the economic development of the area, as well as having a reputation for demonstrating good business ethics,” Tennent said.

In 1945, George R. McClymonds started the company with his wife in Portersville after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1983 and sold the company to Mark McClymonds, his son.

The company owns 450 trucks and leases about 100 trucks and their owner-operators.

The company employs 550 people and serves 600 to 700 customers per week, 90 percent of which stay within 150 miles of Western Pennsylvania.

McClymonds said he considers his employees like family and tries to treat them that way, giving them full benefits, retirement options and job security.

“It’s certainly a team effort,” he said. “We have a lot of good people that work for us.”

The company hauls materials such as limestone, gravel and decorative stone, among others, and the company services large companies and individual homeowners.

McClymonds said the award came unexpectedly because the company doesn’t focus on gaining recognition for its role in the community.

“We kinda go to work every day and try to give our customers unreplaceable service,” he said.

McClymonds said he will accept the award with a humble heart.

“We’ve always tried to give back to our community,” he said. “I think we’re pretty honored and humbled.”
