1:52 p.m. Friday — A Vogel Disposal Services truck driven by Stephen T. Haniwalt, 33, of Renfrew backed into the front of a vehicle driven by Catherine A. Bloom, 44, of Butler as the truck was attempting to back out of a driveway on Brown Avenue.

10:58 p.m. Thursday — A Butler woman told police a man tried to steal her purse while she was sitting in her parked car on East Cunningham Street, near the Terrace Apartments.

The 47-year-old victim said she was in her car waiting for a friend with the driver’s side window halfway down. She was looking for something in her purse when a man approached and yelled for her to give it to him.

She held onto the purse as the man grabbed it and attempted to pull it away.

The suspect then attempted to grab the woman’s throat, but was scared off before he was able to do so, police said. He fled toward the athletic field. Police searched but could not find the suspect.

10:11 p.m. Wednesday — Victoria A. Lutz, 24, of Butler was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, driving during suspension, unauthorized use of registration and other traffic offenses following a traffic stop.

4:27 p.m. Tuesday — A vehicle driven by Joseph French, 47, of Connoquenessing rear ended a vehicle driven by Charles Swidzinski, 53, of Butler at the intersection of Evans City Road and Benbrook Road.

French was cited for speeding.

9:05 p.m. Friday — Jeri L. Brink, 53, of Worthington reported unknown suspects stole her purse from the front passenger side floorboard of her unlocked car while it was parked in the rear parking lot of the Worthington Market.

Her purse contained about $140 worth of cash and items.

10:30 p.m. Thursday — James R. Patton Jr., 43, of Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, was reported missing by his family.

Patton was last seen by a family member at the Sheetz in Heritage. He was driving a blue Dodge truck and hauling a silver and purple Harley- Davidson.

He was described as 6-foot-3, 280 to 300 pounds. He has short blonde hair and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a gray Army shirt.
