BHS, hospice agree to partner on care

JEFFERSON TWP — The Butler Health System and Good Samaritan Hospice have announced a partnership to provide hospice care.

Good Samaritan Hospice is part of Concordia Lutheran Ministries and the Heritage Valley Health System.

Effective Sept. 1, Good Samaritan Hospice and Butler Health System patients will have a continuum of care for their terminal illnesses, according to a news release from Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

“This is another example of strong, independent organizations creating essential strategic partnerships,” said Ken DeFurio, president and CEO of Butler Health System.

Keith Frndak, president and CEO of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, said, “We have had an excellent relationship with Butler Health System for many years and this new partnership continues that goodwill to serve even more.”

Good Samaritan Hospice executive director Judy Connelly said, “Collaborating with BHS provides multiple opportunities to enhance the quality of life, educate and support patients and their families regarding end-of-life decision-making, and provide care focused on the wishes of the individual.”

Good Samaritan Hospice cares for more than 180 people daily.
