The former Culligan building at 300 W. New Castle St. hasn’t been cited by the city code enforcement office because its shrubbery does not block the walkway to the structure.

However, its overgrowing bushes could draw a fine if the vegetation continues to grow and becomes a safety concern.

Tall grass and unkept bushes also can be cited by city police.

The building, which is owned by Greater Culligan of Texas, has been vacant for about a year.

In June, city code enforcement received 172 building code complaints as compared to the monthly average of about 30.

The city usually gets more complaints in the summer than in other seasons.
