FORWARD TWP — An unidentified woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after driving her Jeep SUV into Skander Tire on Route 68.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the SUV, traveling northeast on Route 68, veered off the road, hit a parked car, a parked motorcycle and lodged into the corner of the building.

There were no passengers in the vehicle and no one else was injured.

State police are investigating the cause of the accident, though they do not believe the driver was intoxicated, Trooper Richard Houseman said.

She was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Pittsburgh with what appeared to be a broken ankle. Her injuries were not life threatening, Houseman said.

Rick Skander, owner of Skander Tire, said he was not at the business at the time of the accident and none of the employees saw what happened.

“She just came off the road,” he said.

Before hitting the building, the SUV crashed into a BMW Z3 and a motorcycle that were both parked in front of the building. A Chevrolet pickup truck parked nearby also was damaged. All three vehicles belonged to employees, Skander said.

Skander said he was unsure of the extent of the damage Tuesday night. The business was open this morning.

The Evans City and Callery fire departments and Harmony EMS responded.

Evans City Assistant Chief Brian Greenawalt said the building appeared to be structurally sound, though some firefighters stayed at the scene while a tow truck removed the SUV to make sure it was safe.

The accident did not affect traffic on Route 68.
