John Taveras belted a grand slam and ended the game with five runs batted in as defending Eagle County League champion Mars crushed Pine-Richland 18-3 in the first game of a best-of-5 semifinal series Monday at Marburger Field.

Dan Penberthy added two home runs and four RBI in the win.

Matt DeSalvo struck out seven and walked one in a complete-game victory.

Game 2 will begin at 6 p.m. today at Pine-Richland High School.
