Deceased veteran's relatives are sought

The Butler County Chapter of the Missing in America Project next month will inter the cremated remains of a county veteran that have been unclaimed for more than 120 days.

The remains will be buried at 9 a.m. Aug. 21 with full military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Cecil Township, Washington County.

The remains of John Charles Deremer, who served in the U.S. Navy from April 1974 to February 1976, are slated for interment.

John Moore and Jerry Puff, county coordinators for the Missing in America Project, are looking for any next of kin to see if they would like to participate in the ceremony. Family members who do not want the remains interred at the cemetery can take possession of them.

Family members should contact Moore at 724-283-7586 or Puff at 724-586-2441.

State law allows the remains of veterans to be released to veterans’ organizations if they have not been claimed for at least 120 days. The Missing in America Project is a group that locates, identifies and inters unclaimed remains of veterans.
