July 10 — Police charged Dakota C. Cullen, 18, of Butler with trespass after he allegedly went into a house July 3 in the 500 block of North McKean Street without the occupants’ permission.

The couple who lives at the home told police Cullen had recently been visiting there. They reported the suspect later entered their home without their permission when they were away, according to court documents.

Cullen told police he only went to the home to retrieve his belongings.

[naviga:h3]Butler County Drug Task Force[/naviga:h3]

July 19 — A Butler County Prison inmate was caught with suspected drug contraband in his cell. Prison officers reportedly found James R. Kernick III, 25, of Sewickley, Allegheny County, with a one-inch piece of glass crack cocaine pipe and a scorched wad of Chore Boy copper wool, which can be used for smoking drugs.

Butler County Detective Timothy Fennell, head of the task force, later interviewed Kernick. The suspect admitted he smuggled in the contraband after he was arrested and placed in the prison.

Kernick is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

3:41 a.m. today — A car slammed into a utility pole in Parker Township, bringing down electric wires on West Eldorado Road. The driver, a man whose name was not immediately available, was not injured. State police are investigating but an accident report was not available this morning.

The man was traveling eastbound on the road when his car crossed over the opposing lane and hit the pole, according to a the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department. The driver called 911 and initially reported the crash had caused a fire. But what he saw, fire officials said, turned out to be arcing wires.

1:40 p.m. Sunday — Donald G. Hickey Jr., 45, of Butler was hurt when the sport utility vehicle he was driving collided with a pickup truck at Route 8 and Mahood Road in Center Township.

Hickey, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment. Police said he was cited for several traffic violations including driving with a suspended license. Paula M. Slater, 51, of Butler was the other driver.

2:15 p.m. Saturday — An SUV and motorcycle collided at Main and East Mercer streets in Harrisville. Police did not identify either driver. No one was injured. The SUV driver was cited for a lane violation.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Clarion[/naviga:h3]

2:09 p.m. Sunday — Carolyn C. Kunselman, 59, of Rimersburg was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck in Redbank Township. The crash happened when cars driven by William M. Scheerbaum, 24, of Pittsburgh and Kunselman collided on Route 536.

Kunselman, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Police said Scheerbaum was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Franklin[/naviga:h3]

5:05 p.m. Sunday — Lynsi N. Theil, 20, of Sewickley, Allegheny County, lost control of her car and crashed into a ditch on Route 208 in Irwin Township. The wreck damaged a gas line. Police said Theil was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.

11:07 a.m. Friday — A New Jersey man was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 80 in Scrubgrass Township. An Emlenton Ambulance crew took Emory Lee, 72, of East Orange to Grove City Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Police said a minivan rear-ended the car Lee was driving. He was wearing a seat belt. Rena I. Seltzer, 51, of Ann Arbor, Mich., was the other driver.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

4:44 p.m. Friday — Two Ford City men were hurt when vehicles they were driving collided at Route 66 and Golf Course Road, Manor Township. Benjamin J. Montgomery and Jared J. Mechling, no ages given, were both taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township.

Police said the crash happened when Mechling’s car rear-ended Montgomery’s pickup truck, which was stopped to make a turn.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]

Thursday — An unknown thief stole about $100 from a home on Enterprise Road in Pine Township, Mercer County. The theft happened Wednesday or Thursday.

1:17 p.m. July 14 — A 17-year-old girl swerved her car to avoid a vehicle stopped in front of her and struck a ditch and fence on Route 258 in Liberty Township. The teen was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.
