Police say 730 bags of suspected heroin in vehicle

Traffic stop leads to arrest

BUFFALO TWP — A traffic ticket is the least of a Westmoreland County woman’s problems.

Inside of her speeding car, which was pulled over last month, Buffalo Township police said they found 730 bags of suspected heroin.

Police arrested Kiarra L. Davis, 21, of Arnold following the traffic stop about 2:25 a.m. June 5 at Routes 356 and 28. She was later released and picked up Sunday on an arrest warrant in the case.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Davis on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Police also cited Davis for driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving. She is in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

Township Patrolman Jason Sappe was talking to a resident in the parking lot of Lernerville Speedway shortly after 2 a.m. June 5 when he saw a car speed by. The officer was unable to respond but five minutes later he noticed the same car.

This time, Sappe chased after the vehicle, according to court documents, which was traveling close to 100 mph. He eventually radioed to another officer, who stopped the car.

Davis apologized for driving so fast, police said. She claimed she had been shopping at Walmart and got lost.

However, Sappe noticed the woman seemed “fidgety,” documents said. Also in the vehicle was a man, who owns the car.

While speaking to Davis and her passenger, police said, officers spotted several pine tree air fresheners hanging from the front mirror and in the back of the vehicle, which were not enough to mask the smell of marijuana.

The passenger allegedly admitted he and Davis smoke marijuana but denied they had been smoking it that day. He also allowed police to search the car.

Under the headliner police found 730 stamp bags of suspected heroin, documents said.

In the back seat of the car, police said, officers also seized camouflage body armor.

At her arraignment, Davis told Haggerty that she is the single mother of a 2-year-old child. She is unemployed and admitted that she has a juvenile record for attempted theft.

A preliminary hearing for Davis is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Haggerty’s office in Saxonburg.

Police did not indicate if they plan to charge the owner of the car.
