FAIRVIEW TWP — A township man died Sunday evening after crashing his dirt bike in a wooded area.

Scott Patrick Hutchison, 45, was riding his bike on private property when something apparently caused him to go over the handrails on the bike. He was not wearing a helmet, according to his wife, Emily Hutchison.

The accident happened about 7 p.m. Sunday at property off Angel Avenue.

Hutchison was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. It was unclear whether or not he died at the hospital or on the way there.

Chief Charles Barnes of the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters were on scene for about 30 minutes.

The Young Funeral Home in Butler will handle funeral arrangements.

County Coroner William Young III did not return a call this morning for comment.

State police also responded to the crash, but they could not be reached for comment this morning.
