Foster will be missed

As a volunteer nurse at the Community Health Clinic, I must take issue with Donna Croft’s letter (“Unhappy volunteer”, June 28). The writer should not presume to speak for all of the volunteers when sharing her perspective on the unfortunate resignation of director Cece Foster.

I personally believe Foster’s resignation has negatively impacted staff and volunteer morale, may well stall or hamper future fundraising efforts, and could impede communications and coordination with other medical resources in the county.

I have no knowledge as to why Ms. Foster chose to resign and regret that she found it necessary to do so, but I also recognize this is a personnel matter between her and the board of directors. I do not and should not be privy to any facts that she or the board do not mutually agree to disclose.

Perhaps it was unwise for the board to call a meeting with the staff and volunteers knowing full well that many questions could not and should not be answered but at least it acknowledged that Foster’s decision also impacted us on a personal level.

Unlike the writer, I have every faith that the board of directors has and will continue to have the best interests of our clients and the clinic in the forefront of their minds when making decisions. I am sure they will apply due diligence in recruiting and hiring a capable replacement.

We all will sorely miss Foster’s enthusiasm, skill, kindness, sincerity and energy, but it is my hope that the staff and volunteers will continue to serve our clientele with professionalism and empathy. I personally will miss Cece a great deal but will acknowledge and respect her replacement to the degree my perceptions and interactions allow.
