George V. Volker

Volker

George V. Volker, 90, of Lancaster Township passed away Friday in the comfort of his home.

Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Aspinwall, Pa., he was the son of the late Henry J. and Florence (Schwartzwalder) Volker.

George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and the Korean War.

He was an electrical engineer for the Mesta Machine Co. for 30 years in Pittsburgh and later for Quality Rolls in New Castle.

For 33 years, George was a faithful member of St. Gregory Catholic Church in Zelienople. He led prayer groups, sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister for local nursing facilities.

George will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

He is survived by his five children, Virginia Volker of Lancaster Township, George M. (Barbara) Volker of Lumberton, Texas, Joan (Mark) Geleskie of State College, Pa., Timothy (Trish) Volker of Lumberton, Texas, and Michael (Kathy) Volker of Bloomington, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, David Volker, of Leeper, Pa.; sister-in-law, Mildred Volker; nieces, Janet Sweeney and Karen Martin; and a nephew, Brian Volker.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret M. Volker, who passed away Oct. 7, 2003; and two siblings, sister Miriam David Volker and Henry “Hank” Volker.

VOLKER — The Volker family will receive friends of George V. Volker, who died on Friday, June 26, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, with the Rev. Lawrence R. Smith, celebrant. Friends please meet at church.George will be laid to rest at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery in Ross Township.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George's honor to the St. Gregory School, 2 W.
