Nathan McCombs built this chimney swift tower in Freeport Community Park.

Nathan McCombs, 17, the son of Dwight and Terrie McCombs of Buffalo Township, earned the rank of Eagle Scout at his March 24 board of review.

A Freeport High School senior, Nathan belongs to Troop 525, earning 24 badges over his past 10 years as a scout. His Eagle project was to build a chimney swift tower in Freeport Community Park.

The Audubon Society provided the guidelines and reimbursement for the cost of materials. The tower is meant to house the federally protected chimney swift bird, which builds its nest in hollow trees and chimneys.

He is on the cross country and track teams and enjoys acting in plays and musicals.

Nathan, who also has his own lawn mowing business, personally put more than 50 hours into this project.
