ARMCO Park will host camp
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — YMCA Camp Keystone is changing locations this year.
The camp, offered for kindergarten through sixth grade, has been at Alameda Park in Butler Township in past years, but now it is at ARMCO Park on Route 173, said Francine Mills, YMCA senior child care director.
The camp operates Monday through Friday during the day.
Children going to camp can be dropped off at the Butler YMCA on North Washington Street, and they will be taken up to the camp in school buses. Then they will be bused back to the city at the end of the day.
Parents also have the option to drop off and pick up the children directly at the camp.
In the past, parents were required to pick up the children at Alameda Park at the end of the day.
Since the YMCA owns ARMCO Park, it has full access to all of the facilities there, including the swimming pool.
Talking about this location change, Mills said, “There has been a great response. I think it's a great change for our camp, more flexibility. It's our facility so we have use of our whole facility.”
The camp started this week though it is expected to have many more participants starting Monday, which is the beginning of summer vacation for the Butler School District.
Participants can register for one week at a time and registration will remain open throughout the summer if there is still space. There is a maximum of 96 children for each week.
The camp includes environmental education, arts and crafts, music, sports and group games, camp-wide activities and a field trip every week.
Field trip destination will include Slippery Rock University's Aebersold Student Recreation Center, Moraine State Park and Old Economy Village.
