Man pushing stroller charged

He's accused of endangering child

A man pushing a stroller with his infant son inside down a Butler street was so high on drugs, city police said, that he was charged with endangering the welfare of the child.

Butler police said they also found a suspected marijuana pipe stashed in the stroller’s cargo area.

The suspect, Robert A. Morrow, 22, of Butler, faces a hearing next month on three criminal charges stemming from the incident May 6.

Police, in charging documents filed last week, said they were called just after 11 p.m. for the report of an intoxicated man pushing a stroller on Ridge Avenue.

Officers got there and found Morrow, who appeared to be “lethargic” and was “swaying while standing “with an “unsteady gait,” according to court documents.

In the stroller was the suspect’s 19-month-old son.

Morrow denied he had been drinking or taking drugs. But when officers searched him they found a baggie of suspected marijuana, police said.

A search of the stroller’s bottom storage area turned up a ceramic smoking pipe with suspected marijuana residue on it, documents said.

Morrow’s girlfriend later arrived and took custody of the couple’s child.

Along with child endangerment, Morrow is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors. He also was cited for the summary charge of public drunkenness.

His preliminary hearing is set for July 13 before District Judge Pete Shaffer.
