Butler Police

7:59 p.m. Thursday — Brianne L. Ray, 35, of Butler was caught with suspected drug contraband after police found her allegedly under the influence at Center and Whippo avenues. Officers said Ray smelled of a “strong odor” of alcohol.

A search of the suspect’s purse turned up a marijuana pipe. She is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

State Police, Butler

12:30 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Evelyn Gamble, 83, and a truck driven by William Miller IV, 37, both of Butler collided at Sunset Drive and Holyoke Road in Center Township.

2:59 a.m. Saturday — Sarah F. Cromer, 28, of Chicora was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at South Cliff and East Birch streets in Butler.

8:20 p.m. Friday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Thomas G. Farah, 27, of New Castle crashed and spun out on Interstate 79 just north of West Park Road in Muddy Creek Township. Police cited Farah for not wearing a seat belt.

5:50 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Richard W. Gniewkowski, 51, of Butler struck an embankment before spinning around and hitting a pickup truck on Star Grille Road in Clearfield Township. Police cited Gniewkowski for driving too fast for conditions. Walter G. Huffmyer, 49, of Butler was driving the pickup.

2:20 a.m. Friday — Timothy P. Pitzer, 34, of Slippery Rock was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Route 8 at Route 173 in Brady Township.

11:44 Tuesday — An Ohio woman allegedly shoplifted merchandise at the Boscov’s store at the Clearview Mall in Center Township. The suspect, Kelli J. Lasick, 32, of Steubenville, faces a charge of retail theft.

May 25 — More than $1,800 worth of construction tools were stolen in a burglary at a home in the 200 block of Clearfield Road in Winfield Township. The unknown burglar got inside through an unlocked window.

Among the items stolen were a DeWalt table saw, a DeWalt miter saw, a Bostitch 5-gallon air compressor, three Bostitch nailers and a Hilti corded impact drill. The break-in happened between May 22 and 25.

May 25 — Police charged Pearl M. Shultz, 59, of East Brady, Clarion County, with stealing a 74-year-old Chicora woman’s purse momentary set on the floor about 12:40 p.m. May 18 at Quality Pharmacy on Medical Center Road in Donegal Township.

Shultz allegedly left the store with the purse that contained credit cards, an Apple iPhone, $100 in currency and other items.

She is charged with theft and receiving stolen property, both first-degree misdemeanors.

12:40 p.m. May 24 — Curtis R. Veltre, 17, of Harrisville lost control of his speeding car and struck an embankment, spinning out and hitting the embankment several more times. Veltre was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

May 18 — A burglar made off with an amount of silver bullion coins from a home in the 300 block of South Walnut Avenue in Parker Township. The break-in happened between Jan. 2 and May 18.

State Police, Kittanning

1:57 a.m. Sunday — Zachary D. Knoch, 32, of Worthington was arrested after allegedly assaulting a 29-year-old woman at a home on School House Lane in West Franklin Township. The woman, also of Worthington, suffered a minor injury.

Knoch was arraigned on a charge of simple assault, and placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $2,500 bail.

State Police, Mercer

8:20 a.m. Sunday — A teenager was hurt when she lost control of her car and crashed into a tree along Clark Road in Jackson Township, Mercer County. The driver, Kylee M. Safran, 17, of Stoneboro, was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. She was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

Friday — A thief stole an antique wood/coal stove from a trailer home on Griffin Road in Sandy Lake Township. Siding from the trailer was also taken in the theft that happened between 5 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday.

State Police, New Castle

11:22 p.m. Wednesday — Paige A. Volek, 27, of Butler was hurt when the car she was driving struck a tree that had fallen across Route 488 just west of Wehman Lane in Perry Township, Lawrence County. Volek, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury.
