Butler Police

8:31 p.m. Wednesday — Cars driven by Jennifer S. Snow, 35, of Butler Township and Brooke R. Young, 21, of Sarver collided at East Brady and North Monroe streets.

2:45 p.m. Wednesday — Michael A. Clutter, 36, of Butler was arrested after allegedly shoplifting a 32-inch sound bar from the Kmart store at Pullman Square. Police said Clutter took off running when a store employee spotted him taking the merchandise valued at $50.

The suspect ran toward nearby DuBrook Concrete on Bantam Avenue. Police found him a short time later hiding in a metal container, according to court documents.

Clutter, who has two prior arrests for shoplifting, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.

12:11 p.m. Wednesday — Shawnna M. Bastian, 20, no known address, was arrested on charges that she was high on drugs when she shoplifted a pair of $6 sunglasses at the Dollar General store on North Main Street.

Bastian is also accused of giving police a bogus name. When police later identified her, they learned she was wanted on a pair of bench warrants.

The defendant was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of retail theft and providing false information to police, and a summary charge of public drunkenness.

She was placed in Butler County Prison on $7,500 bail following arraignment. She is also being held on the warrants.

Butler County Court records showed those warrants were issued in December when she failed to appear for a court hearings in two separates cases, one for shoplifting and the other for possession of drug paraphernalia, both filed by Butler police.

5:59 p.m. Sunday — Jonathan D. Felock, 35, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting two bags of candy, worth about $5, at Friedman’s supermarket on West Brady Street, Felock, who has one prior arrest for shoplifting is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Butler Twp Police

5:40 a.m. Thursday — David J. Perri, 54, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a 5:40 a.m. April 26 traffic stop on Freeport Road. Police said they found Perri with suspected marijuana in his vehicle.

Perri is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and making an improper turn.

Thursday — Police charged two Kittanning women in connection with a May 8 shoplifting incident at a store at the Butler Commons shopping plaza.

The suspects, 45-year-old Tina Singleton and 37-year-old Debbie Russo, were caught allegedly shoplifting seven Yankee Candles valued at nearly $200 from David’s Hallmark store. Both women are charged with retail theft.

Grove City Police

12:05 a.m. Thursday — Two youths were stopped on the 600 block of West Main Street, in violation of the borough’s curfew. The suspects, both 16 years old, were cited for the curfew violation.

Noon Wednesday — Megan M. Bartley, 30, of Grove City was caught driving a vehicle that had a current registration sticker that was not for that vehicle, following a traffic stop on East Main Street near Summit Street.

Bartley is charged with falsification of a registration plate and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Monday — An unidentified vehicle struck the back of a car parked in front of a house on the 300 block of Edgewood Avenue. The unknown hit-and-run driver did not stop. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.

Butler County, Drug Task Force

Wednesday — Donald E. Vargo, 40, of Butler was arrested on a felony drug warrant after he turned himself in to Butler police.

The arrest warrant was issued this week stemming from a Butler County Drug Task Force investigation earlier this year. Vargo is accused of selling crack cocaine to a police informant Jan. 23.

According to court documents, the defendant and informant spoke by cell phone to arrange the $100 drug deal that occurred on the 500 block of West Penn Street in Butler.

Vargo was arraigned on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.

He was placed in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail following arraignment.

State Police, Butler

2:45 p.m. Thursday — A leather jacket was found on the side of the road on Route 488 in Prospect. The owner can claim the property by calling police at 724-284-8100.

12:55 p.m. Wednesday — The fire marshal’s unit in Butler is investigating a fire that damaged a home on Macrae Drive in Pine Township, Mercer County. The blaze caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Tuesday — More than $1,700 worth of items were stolen during a burglary at a home on Shuler Road in Clearfield Township. The home also sustained $50 in damage in the break-in that happened between 3:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.

Tuesday — Someone broke into the U.S. Steel Annandale Archives in Marion Township and stole two fire extinguishers from the abandoned building. The burglary happened between 4:15 p.m. May 22 and 10 a.m. Tuesday.

7 a.m. Tuesday — Thomas Lee Shuler, 29, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at his home on Criley Road in Clearfield Township.

The suspected victim, 25-year-old Leah C. McGee, told police that Shuler initially attacked her about 7 p.m. Monday. She said he punched her in the left eye, pushed her to the ground and strangled her, according to court documents. He also is accused of threatening to kill McGee.

Shuler is accused of dragging the victim by the hair back into his house and holding her there against her will. He also warned her not to contact police, documents said.

Some time later, police said, the woman managed to escape the home and drive away. She eventually went to the emergency room at UPMC Passavant Cranberry for treatment of injuries suffered in the alleged assault.

Police spoke to her at the hospital about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and saw firsthand her injuries.

Shuler was arrested and arraigned at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on charges of terroristic threat, unlawful restraint, simple assault, intimidating a victim and harassment. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail following arraignment.

Sunday — Three people were arrested during a sobriety checkpoint over the Memorial Day holiday weekend on Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township.

In all, 150 vehicles were stopped during the detail from 11 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday. Along with the DUI arrests, police made three drug arrests and issued numerous traffic tickets and warnings.

Saturday — An unknown suspect stole a 22-year-old Butler man’s cell phone and money in a theft at Rock Falls in Slippery Rock Township. The theft happened between noon and 11 p.m.

State Police, Franklin

1:52 p.m. Monday — A Butler County wreck left an Ohio woman hospitalized with a back injury. The driver, Francene McIntyre, 57, of Bay Village, ended up in a gully after crashing on Interstate 80 in Allegheny Township.

Police said McIntyre lost control of her car when she looked down to clean up a spill on her leg. The car went off the highway and dropped into a gully before climbing a small rise, riding the embankment and traveling back into the gully.

McIntyre, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to UPMC Northwest in Seneca. The Emlenton Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the scene.

State Police, Mercer

6:40 a.m. Wednesday — Robert C. Amsler, 23, of Parker lost control of his pickup truck and rolled over several times on Route 358 in Perry Township Mercer County.

Police said it appeared the accident happened after Amsler fell asleep at the wheel. The westbound pickup drifted across the eastbound lane and hit a ditch. After rolling over, the truck landed on its wheels.

Amsler, who was wearing a seat belt, was apparently uninjured. Police said he was cited for careless driving.
