Two lives ruined

An open letter to Michael Bobbish Jr. and his attorney, Jack Haller, regarding “Mars man sentenced for 4th DUI” (May 1, Page 1).

Mr. Bobbish, you can thank your lucky stars every day that when you caused the head-on accident involving Sara “Sally” Thompson in January 2013 that she was a feisty lady and would fight for her life to continue, or you could have been tried for a much more serious crime. I would think that after three previous DUI convictions you would have learned a lesson or two.

Mr. Haller, I would like to point out to you that if it weren’t for the irresponsibility of your client that Sally Thompson would still be driving and able to work in her garden with her beautiful flowers. Don’t give me the “If not for the crash, he’d be walking today” business, as you were quoted saying in the Eagle. If it weren’t for the crash Mrs. Thompson would be doing a lot of things she can no longer do. Your client made a bad decision and he will live with that fact every day. Bobbish made the decision to drive and drink hard liquor while driving.

Mrs. Thompson realizes she will never be the same, and by your bad choice, Mr. Bobbish, neither will you, but the blame lies solely on your shoulders for changing the lives of two people and their families — one a very sweet feisty woman and the other a 44-year-old irresponsible man — a man who was driving with 2 1/2 times the amount of alcohol in his system permitted by Pennsylvania law.

Mrs. Thompson is a wonderful caring and forgiving Christian woman. You can also thank God that she has asked for prayers for you and that you will get help while you are in prison. I’m not sure I could forgive so quickly.

Don’t feel sorry for yourself, Mr. Bobbish, unless it’s feeling sorry because you were careless and ruined more than just two lives.
