Crash reduces Rt. 228 to one lane

ADAMS TWP — A three-car accident on Route 228 this morning ruined a trip to the garden center for a local woman.

Adams Township officer Mandy Mudrick said Rebecca Brown of Adams Township was facing east in her Honda Odyssey, waiting for a break in the oncoming traffic so she could turn left into Quality Gardens. Daniel Bayne of Seven Fields, who was driving a Honda Accord, noticed too late that Brown was stopped.

Bayne swerved to the left, striking Brown’s car and striking an oncoming Nissan Murano driven by Jennifer Mahoney of Gibsonia, Mudrick said.

Mahoney, whose vehicle suffered heavy damage to the front driver’s side, was taken by ambulance to a hospital to be checked as a precaution. Mudrick said she did not appear to be badly injured.

Bayne’s car was totaled, Mudrick said, but Brown was able to drive her car although it had rear end damage.

The accident, which happened at about 10:30 a.m., reduced traffic on Route 228 to one lane for almost an hour.

In addition to Adams police, Adams Area Fire District and Quality EMS responded to the scene.

Mudrick said on Thursday afternoon that it has not yet been determined whether any citations would be issued as a result of the accident.
