Butler Police

Friday — Matthew P. Williams, 21, of Butler was arrested on charges he struck his 10-year-old stepdaughter last month at their home in the 500 block of West Brady Street.

Police said the Butler County Children and Youth Services office notified them about the suspected case of child abuse that happened. April 27. Authorities suspect Williams hit the girl in the face, causing swelling and bruising, according to court documents.

The child was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital after CYS learned of the alleged abuse. But the child apparently tried to absolve Williams of wrongdoing, telling authorities that he was only trying to spank her but missed and hit her face, documents said,

Williams later denied hitting the girl and told police that her injuries could have happened when his cell phone accidentally fell out of his shirt and hit her in the face.

He was arraigned on charges of simple assault and child endangerment, and later released on his own recognizance.

Butler Township Police

Monday — Kurt R. Kline, 27, of Evans City was charged with drunken driving stemming from a one-car wreck about 8:35 p.m. May 4 on Old Plank Road at Pittsburgh Pike. The crash happened when Kline lost control of his vehicle and slid into a ditch.

Neither Kline nor his 2-year-old son, who was in the vehicle, was injuries.

In addition to driving under the influence, Kline is charged with child endangerment, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.

9:56 a.m. Friday — A car driven by Zachary Williams, 22, of Coal Center, Washington County, rear-ended another vehicle on Route 8 south at Vogel Road. He told police he lost control of his vehicle after momentarily dozing off.

Police said they cited Williams for driving at an unsafe speed. Audra Phibbs, 20, of Gibsonia was the other driver.

2:51 p.m. May 12 — Sylvia Neubert, 77, of Saxonburg was hurt when the car she was driving struck a sign in the parking lot at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. The extent of her injuries was not known.

State Police, Butler

Monday — A burglar made off with several pieces of jewelry after breaking into a woman’s home in the 200 block of Miller Road in Slippery Rock Township. The break-in happened between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

10:27 p.m. Friday — Uriah A. Bish, 22, of Petrolia was arrested on a warrant after a traffic stop on New Castle Road in front of VA Butler Healthcare in Butler Township. But moments later, the suspect became unresponsible after suffered an apparent drug overdose.

An EMS crews treated Bish with naloxone, known as Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of heroin and other opioids like oxycodone. He was revived and subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police also took Bish into custody on an arrest warrant obtained by state police May 7 in connection with more than $1,000 in fraudulent withdrawals he made last year using a Petrolia woman’s bank debit card.

5:30 p.m. Thursday — Philip A. Vignoli, 30, of New Castle gave a bogus name to police after troopers found his disabled motorcycle on Interstate 79 in Worth Township.

Police charged Vignoli with false identification to police, driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, failing to notify authorities of a change of address, and driving a motorcycle without proper eye protection.

Thursday — A con man scammed a Center Township man out of an undisclosed amount of money. The con happened as the 51-year-old victim was trying to sell his all-terrain vehicle.

Police said the suspect gave the victim a check, which proved to be bogus, for the ATV. In exchange for the purported purchase, the victim sent a MoneyGram to the suspect as a reimbursement for the cost to ship the ATV.

May 7 — An identity thief used a 50-year-old Summit Township woman’s duplicated credit card at stores in New York and Pennsylvania. Police said they have no suspects in the theft had happened May 6 and 7.

State Police, Clarion

12:13 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Lee M. McCracken, 51, of Grove City struck a tree after a tractor-trailer changing lanes forced him off Interstate 80 in Beaver Township, Clarion County. The car rolled over after hitting the tree but McCracken, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt.

Police said the trucker, Raytheon M. Johnson, 25, of Garland, Texas, was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.

State Police, New Castle

April 4 — Someone cut off the registration sticker from the license plate of a car at the Hell’s Hollow parking lot at McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County
