Vendors sought for Oktoberfest

Applications are being accepted

EVANS CITY — Craft and food vendors looking to participate in the borough's annual Oktoberfest celebration can submit applications.

Marlene Domhoff, vice chairman of the Oktoberfest committee, said about 50 vendors usually set up at the festival each September.

This year's event will be the weekend of Sept. 19.

She said while many of the same booths are set up each year along Wahl Avenue and North Jackson streets, she tries to include a new vendor or food booth each year.

Domhoff said last year, a first-time vendor who sells framed art enjoyed her profitable stint at Oktoberfest.

“She said 'I paid for my spot the first day. I'll be back next year,'” Domhoff said. “She said 'I just loved the people.'”

Domhoff said vendors are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

She said vendors' applications will be accepted until a week to 10 days before Oktoberfest.

Cindy Caldwell said her parents, Roy and Sally Long, have had their food booth since the first Oktoberfest 27 years ago.

She said the family started setting up a booth at Oktoberfest as an extension of their former restaurant, The Heritage House, which was at the corner of Wahl Avenue and North Washington Street.

“Our big specialty, which we've done every year, is homemade hot apple dumplings,” Caldwell said.

She said her family and St. Peter's Lutheran Church make 500-600 dumplings for each Oktoberfest.

“It's a great festival,” Caldwell said. “It's family friendly, and it offers something for everyone.”

The Oktoberfest committee also is accepting applications for the Oktoberfest Parade, which will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 19.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories.

Parade applications are available at www.evanscity.us, and vendor applications are available by calling Domhoff at 724-316-4113.

Applications for the car cruise to be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 are available by contacting Jack Weber at Weber Insurance in Evans City.
