Mars softball nips Highlands in 9th

Karns City's Yough, Moniteau's Boben toss no-hitters in baseball victories

Maggie Olshenske scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning on an error as the Mars softball team edged Highlands, 7-6, Tuesday afternoon.

Olshenske had four hits to pace the Planets' 17-hit attack.

Mallory Eperesi and Marina Manupelli each had triples and Suzanne Papik and Jordyn Douglas also had three hits for Mars (8-4, 7-1).

Niki Schlegel pitched all nine innings for the win, striking out eight and walking two. Schlegel also had a double at the plate.

Butler swept the singles matches on the way to a 4-1 win over Neshannock.

The Golden Tornado won four of their final five to finish the season at 7-5 overall.

Track and Field

Mars was defeated in the WPIAL Class AAA team semifinals Tuesday at North Allegheny.

The host Tigers cruised into Monday's finals in boys and girls, topping the Planets and West Allegheny. Mars' boys took a 108-42 loss while the girls were handed a 132-18 defeat.
