I am writing on behalf of the Butler BlueSox local ownership group in reply to William Campbell’s letter to the editor (“Fiscally irresponsible”, April 22).

There is a distinction between fact and opinion. For example, the writer asserts, “The Butler Blue Sox may default on their baseball field mortgage.”

Fact: The Butler BlueSox is a tenant at Kelly Automotive Park. We do not own the property. Rather, the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Butler is the record owner of the real estate and the beautiful ballpark thereon. The Redevelopment Authority borrowed the funds and, therefore, is obligated to repay the amount borrowed by making monthly payments to the bank.

Opinion: Many thanks to Peoples TWP and Pennsylvania American Water Co. for stepping to the plate for the City of Butler by sponsoring this year’s Fourth of July fireworks show. The BlueSox have a game preceding the light show. It will be a wonderful evening in which to celebrate our nation’s independence and ongoing freedoms.
