Gregory A. Shay

Gregory A. “Spike” Shay, 49, of Fenelton passed away Friday at UPMC Shadyside.

Born June 13, 1965, in Butler, he was the son of Ron Shay Sr. and Carol Shay-Boarts.

Gregory was a truck driver for Pennsylvania Roofing System.

He spent a great deal of time in Driftwood, Pa., spotting elk and camping. He loved to restore cars and was a very well-known mechanic in the Butler area.

Surviving is his mother, Carol Shay-Boarts of Fenelton; his daughter, Angela Clemens and her husband, Donald, of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Jayden, Emma and Derrick; two sisters, Cindy MacDonald of Fenelton and Debrah Weichey and her husband, Robert, James “BJ” of Butler; two brothers, Darin Shay and his fiance, Tiffany Baptiste, of Fenelton and Dennis Shay of Connoquenessing; four stepchildren, Jaime Angert and her husband, Zach, of Carbon Center, Sean Hess and his wife, Kimmi, of Fenelton, William Hess, who is serving in the armed services, and his wife, Samantha, and Ryan Hess of Fenelton; six step-grandchildren, Hailee, Katie, Allie, Peyton, Dani and Skylar; five nephews, Robert MacDonald and his wife, Tara, Ronald Shay III, James Shay and his wife, Kimberly, Koda Weichey and Kayden Weichey; three nieces, Kelly Patterson and her husband, Tom, Susan Warner and her husband, Jeremy, and Kourtney Jewart and her husband, Kevin; several great nephews and nieces; one great-great nephew; and one soon to be great-great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ron Shay Sr.; his brother, Ron Shay Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Dennis “Mac” McDonald.

SHAY — A celebration of life party will be held for Gregory A. “Spike” Shay, who died Friday, April 17, 2015, at Happy Hunter's Sportsman Club on Chicora Fenelton Road from 1 to 8 p.m. May 9 with a main course and Busch beer provided at the pot luck.Memorial contributions may be made to ElkCountryVisitorCenter.com.
