City man faces murder trial on Monday

Richard Neyman

A murder trial is set to begin Monday for a man who claims he killed a city man in self-defense.

Richard Neyman, 38, of Butler will defend himself against allegations that he purposely shot and killed Craig Haas, 45, on his city porch on Sept. 27, 2012.

Neyman at the time of the shooting reportedly told investigators that he’d gone to Haas’ apartment in search of his girlfriend. When he arrived, Neyman allegedly claimed he was attacked by Haas and a .38-caliber revolver that Neyman had went off, fatally shooting Haas in the chest.

Neyman’s trial is expected to last about a week and will include about 25 witnesses. Butler County Judge Timothy McCune will preside.

Neyman could face life in prison if he is convicted of first-degree homicide. Neyman, who lived on East Jefferson Street, is in the Butler County Prison without bail.
