6:15 p.m. Tuesday — Sarah Kay Barkley, 26, and Chad M. Spahn, 26, both of Butler were both arrested on warrants after police spotted them loitering near a building in the 100 block of East New Castle Street. Barkley also appeared to be under the influence of drugs, according to a police report.

A police computer check determined that both suspects were wanted on bench warrants. Barkley also was wanted by Butler Township police on an arrest warrant.

A search of Barkley’s purse turned up a drug pipe with suspected cocaine residue, four used syringes and a spoon. A used syringe also was found in Spahn’s pants pocket.

Both suspects were placed in the Butler County Prison on their warrants. Police also charged each with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Court records showed that Barkley’s arrest warrant was for a Feb. 5 shoplifting scheme with another woman at the Walmart in Butler Township. She is charged in that case with theft by deception and conspiracy.

She was wanted on the bench warrant for failing to appear at a court hearing in connection with a possession of drug paraphernalia case.

The sheriff’s office was seeking Spahn on warrants for two separate possession of drug paraphernalia cases.
