SV softball, Butler track in nail-biters

Alex Pfab’s base hit drove in Jess Neill with what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning in Seneca Valley’s 3-2 home softball victory over Moon in a Section 3-AAAA clash Tuesday afternoon.

Neill had singled and stole second base to set up Pfab’s game-winning single.

Nikki Matz struck out eight and walked only one in a complete game to earn the win.

The Raiders improved to 4-1 with the victory.

Boys Tennis

Mars junior Josh Raymundo bowed out of the WPIAL Class AAA singles tournament with a 10-6 quarterfinal loss to Fox Chapel’s Sid Rajupet Tuesday at The Club in Monroeville.

Raymundo, the Section 2 champion, had won a first-round match 10-7 over Shady Side Academy’s Derek Chen.

Track and Field

Butler’s boys tied North Allegheny on the scoreboard, 75-75, but lost on a tiebreaker thanks to the Tigers’ 10-8 edge in first-place finishes.

Robert Burdine won the 100 and 200 dash for the Golden Tornado (3-1).

Butler’s girls dropped a 102-48 decision. Emily Horstman (200), Kalynn Callihan (shot put) and Julia Baxter (high jump) won their respective events for the Tornado (3-1).
