Duquesne women at WVU tonight

PITTSBURGH — The Duquesne University women’s basketball team plays a third-round WNIT game at West Virginia at 7 p.m. today.

The Dukes (23-10) edged Richmond, 48-47, Tuesday night as Butler graduate Olivia Bresnahan scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds. WVU is 20-14 on the year.

SV goalie Benjamin headed to Findlay

JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley senior goalkeeper Bryce Benjamin will continue his academic and soccer career at Findlay College in Ohio.

Benjamin had a school record-tying 10 shutouts last fall as the Raiders finished 16-3 and won their section. He will be playing in the Shale Classic, a national high school/club soccer all-star event, July 24-25 in Massillon, Ohio.

Butler grad Bailey earns PSAC honors

SLIPPERY ROCK — Butler graduate Jasmine Bailey is among three Slippery Rock University athletes earning PSAC honors in track and field this week.

Bailey was named PSAC Female Track Athlete of the Week after posting the conference’s top mark in the 100 meters at 12.30 seconds and 200 at 24.78 in the outdoor season’s first week. Her 200-meter time is fourth-fastest in the nation.

SRU throwers Sam Taylor (women) and Trevor Miller (men) were named PSAC Field Athletes of the Week. Taylor placed second in the javelin at the Coastal Carolina Invitational while Miller did likewise in the shot put.

Huey solid in loss for PSU-Altoona

GREENVILLE — Butler graduate Matt Huey had a match-high 10 kills in Penn State-Altoona’s 3-0 men’s volleyball loss at Thiel reecently.

Huev added three digs and a service ace in the Lions’ 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 loss. PSU-Altoona is 5-15 on the year.
