Tornado track gets opening triumph

The Butler boys and girls track teams opened the season with Section 3-AAA wins over Pine-Richland and Fox Chapel Wednesday night at Butler.

Emily Horstman and Alyssa DiPippa each had a hand in winning three events to lead the Golden Tornado past Pine-Richland (117-32) and Fox Chapel (115-31).

Horstman won the 100 and 200 meter dashes and was a member of the 1,600 relay team that won.

DiPippa won the 800 run and was a member of the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relays for Butler (2-0, 2-0).

Marcus McCall and Robert Burdine both won two events for the Golden Tornado boys, helping them beat the Rams (127-23) and Foxes (109-41).

Girls Lacrosse

North Hills 13, Knoch 5 — The Knights dropped their season opener Tuesday despite two goals each from Heidi Fanton and Ally Riley, one from Mikayla Spreng.

Knoch travels to Mars today.
