City considering sale of Memorial Park pool

Butler is looking into the possibility of selling its former swimming pool at Memorial Park.

Councilman Bill May said at the city’s meeting Thursday night the city has little options left with the abandoned pool.

“Something has to be done there,” May said.

The pool at the end of Miller Avenue has been vacant for more than a decade, May said.

It would cost the city more than $30,000 to fill the pool in, while building a new attraction there would likely cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Council authorized city solicitor Jim Coulter to research the deed of the property to determine if there is anything in the title that would limit the marketability of the pool.
