Center has a home

There has been a lot of attention given to whether the 10 senior centers administered by the Butler County Area Agency on Aging will be closed and consolidated, possibly into one center in the Clearview Mall.

For 25 years the Butler Senior Center has been housed at the Tanglewood Community Center.

There has been some confusion regarding this. Seniors have been calling the Tanglewood Center and asking if we are closing.

The board of directors of Tanglewood would like to clear up the confusion and clarify our position. As stated, the Tanglewood houses the Butler Senior Center. Tanglewood has its own functions and operates independently from the Butler Senior Center.

Many seniors have told us the Area Agency on Aging stated that Tanglewood no longer wants to house the senior center. The board states publicly that this is not true. We very much want the senior center at Tanglewood and would like to continue our long-term relationship with Area Agency on Aging.

Tanglewood has worked with the Area Agency on Aging in the past several years by reducing the rental fee paid to Tanglewood by 50 percent. This was the result of the Area Agency on Aging’s request stating they could no longer afford the present rent. We feel this showed good faith in the long-term relationship we have had with the agency.

Tanglewood has always enjoyed having the senior center here and the seniors will always be welcomed at our center. We look forward to working with the Area Agency on Aging should they choose to remain at Tanglewood.
