BUTLER TWP — Two more youths have been charged in connection with the armed robbery of a drugstore earlier this month.

A 14-year-old township boy previously was arrested and charged with robbery, theft and simple assault in the March 12 holdup of the Walgreens on New Castle Road.

Police on Wednesday announced two other township boys, ages 16 and 14, have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and receiving stolen property.

Those boys were involved in “planning and divvying up” the merchandise stolen in the robbery, said township police Detective Sgt. David Fish.

The older boy is the brother of the suspected robber.

Each of the three youths is at a secured juvenile detention facility.

Fish said a tip led police to the alleged robber’s accomplices.

It was another tip that police said helped them identify the boy accused of walking into the store about 6:20 p.m. and revealing to a clerk what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband.

That teen made off with merchandise but no money.

Surveillance cameras captured video images of the robber, who wore a blue bandanna and a paint ball mask.

Police got a search warrant for the boy’s house, where his father and grandmother also live. The search uncovered a shirt, bandanna and paint ball mask that matched what the robber wore. No weapon was found.

The boy has denied robbing the store, Fish said.
