Teacher cleared in sexual assault case

BUFFALO TWP — An investigation by the state police found there was no evidence of an alleged sexual assault by a Freeport School District male teacher on a female student.

The Freeport teacher who has been on paid leave while being investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting the 18-year-old has not returned to school, said Todd O’Shell, district spokesman, this morning.

The district had no other comment on the matter.

The teacher, who has not been identified and was not charged, was the focus of an investigation when police got a report of the sexual assault.

State police at Kittanning say that the student later told them that she never was assaulted, police said in a statement released Tuesday evening.

According to the initial report to police, the assault was to have occurred between Aug. 1 and Jan. 17.

The investigation was initiated by the Buffalo Township police and was turned over to state police once it was determined the possible location was in South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County.

Further interviews could not substantiate the original report of the alleged assault.
