Donald Heckert

Donald E. Heckert, 86, of Butler passed away Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born on Oct. 15, 1928, in Evans City, he was the son of the late Albert E. and Myrtle Kennedy Heckert.

He retired in 1989 from Butler Armco, where he was a pipe fitter.

Donald was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of the Armco Veterans Club and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora. He was a former member of the Cubs ASA, where he played football.

He was an avid hunter, and he loved to travel, especially to his camp in Elk County.

He is survived by his son, Dale J. Heckert of Butler; his daughter, Diane Heckert of Butler; his companion, Erma Long of Butler; his brother, Albert L. Heckert of Hampton Bays, N.Y.; and his sister, Mrs. Ruth McIlvain of Butler.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne L. Krankota Heckert, who passed away on Jan. 23, 2009; his daughter, Donna Rowe, who passed away on July 3, 2012; one brother; and one sister.
