Peter Ference

Peter Ference

Peter Ference, 94, of La Grange, Ill., passed away on March 6.

Born on Sept. 9, 1920, in Lyndora, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary Hornick Ference, and last surviving child, having been predeceased by seven brothers and five sisters.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy's Seabees construction battalion. He was interviewed about his service for several oral history projects, including the Veterans History Project of the American Folklife Center of The Library of Congress.

Peter and his family moved to La Grange in 1953. He was a member of the American Legion Robert E. Coulter Jr. Post 1941 and the VFW 10778 of Western Springs, and a longtime parishioner of the St. Cletus Church, where he served as Eucharistic Minister, usher and member of the Holy Name Society.

His beloved wife, Frances, died in 2006.

He is survived by his three sons, Richard (Betty), David (Sheila) and Michael; his seven grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Ference — A private interment for Peter Ference, who passed away Friday, March 6, 2015, was held with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Ellwood, Ill.
