Jack Frost finally may be departing the region. According to the National Weather Service, meteorological conditions indicate the bitter temperatures won’t be returning anytime soon.

Weather service meteorologist John Darnley said the next two weeks show normal temperatures for March.

That means no below zero readings like Butler County had Thursday night and early today.

The weather service reports the coldest spot in the county overnight was the Portersville area, with a temperature of minus 12. The county airport hit minus 8.

Darnley said weather patterns along the West Coast indicate warmer air coming here.

“A zonal flow is good news for keeping Arctic air to the north,” he said.

The Butler forecast is for a low of 18 tonight and a high of 34 Saturday. The extended forecast shows temperatures reaching into the 50s by midweek.

The next chance for snow is Sunday morning before 10 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
