Knoch's Geist wins shot put title

Knoch sophomore Jordan Geist won the Pennsylvania high school indoor shot put title Sunday during the state meet at State College.

Geist tossed the shot put 64 feet, 11.50 inches to easily best the field. Runner-up Evan Blaire of Hickory’s throw was nine feet short of Geist’s winning effort.

Coached by his mother, former Slippery Rock University All-American thrower Judy Geist, Geist has totally committed to the shot put and discus. A standout football player as well, he has decided not to return to the gridiron next fall.

His goals include winning the PIAA shot put title at the outdoor state meet this spring.

Butler’s Derek Gengler placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 51-4.785.

In other local results at the meet:

Mars’ Ori Rinaman placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.18 seconds.

Seneca Valley’s Mike Kolor placed sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:19.49.

Moniteau’s Maura Kimmel finished 11th in the girls shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 2.25 inches.
