Four Butler County boys and girls high school basketball teams will open up the PIAA playoffs this week:

The District 9 Class AA champion Karns City girls basketball team will play Burrell at 7 p.m. Friday at Clarion High School.

The Mars boys basketball team, the fifth-place team out of the WPIAL Class AAA, will square off against District 6 champ Somerset at 8 p.m. Friday at Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg.

The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic boys basketball team, the fifth-place team out of the WPIAL Class A, will battle District 9 champ Clarion-Limestone at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Clarion University.

The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls basketball team, the WPIAL Class A runner-up, will take on District 10 runner-up Cochranton at 1 p.m. Saturday at Canon-McMillan High School.
