GC breaks D-10 meet record

The Grove City 200-yard medley relay team made earn its bid in the PIAA Class AA swimming championships with a head-turning performance.

Austin Wilson, Thomas Somora, Rockwell Pokrant and Evin Reynolds finished in 1 minute, 37.12 seconds to set a meet record at the District 10 swimming championships Friday night at the S.P.I.R.E Institute at Geneva, Ohio.

Wilson also captured a district title and state bid in the 50 freestyle (21.86), while Somora was a runner up in the 200 IM (2:01.67). Grove City is second in the team standings with 187 points, 11 behind Fairview.

Slippery Rock's Matt Johnson finished third in the 50 free (22.4).

On the girls' side, Renee Decker earned a state bid for the Eagles by finishing second in the 50 free (24.92).

Slippery Rock's Tabitha Donaldson finished third in 25.40, less than a second behind Decker.

The Grove City girls are third in the team standings with 97 points, Fairview is in first with 259.
