Broken leg, foot sidelines Busch

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Joe Gibbs is unsure how long Kyle Busch will be sidelined with a broken right leg and left foot from a crash at Daytona International Speedway.

Busch had surgery on his right leg in Daytona after Saturday’s crash in the Xfinity Series race. His foot will be examined when he returns to Charlotte, North Carolina, by specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, Gibbs said.

Heat loses Bosch for rest of season

MIAMI — Chris Bosh will miss the rest of the season after the Miami Heat announced blood clots were found on one of his lungs.

The problem, if it had not been caught, could have killed the 30-year-old All-Star forward, who had been fighting pain in his side and back for several days.

Final farewell given to legendary Smith

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina said its final farewell to Dean Smith.

The school offered one more tribute to the late Hall of Famer, holding a public memorial service attended by thousands of fans, former players and coaching colleagues.

Smith died two weeks ago at age 83.

The school estimated between 9,000 and 10,000 attended Sunday’s program.

1980 ‘Miracle on Ice’ revisited by team

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Members of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team returned to the rink they made famous with their Miracle on Ice victory 35 years ago over the Soviet Union.

The “Relive the Miracle” reunion at Herb Brooks Arena attracted more than 5,000 fans for a two-hour celebration of one of the most memorable upsets in sports history. Every surviving player from the team made the trip. It was the first time the team had all been together since that memorable night.

Missing was Brooks, the Hall of Fame coach who was killed in a car accident in 2003, and rugged defenseman Bob Suter, who died at age 57 in September.

New Zeakand’s Ko wins Women’s Open

MELBOURNE, Australia — New Zealand’s Lydia Ko won the Women’s Australian Open in her second start at No. 1 in the world, closing with a 2-under 71 for a two-stroke victory over South Korea’s Amy Yang.
