A-C Valley girls fall in triple OT

Union boys nip Johnsonburg

Madison Harrier made two free throws with 15 seconds left in the third overtime to give Cameron County a 56-55 win over A-C Valley in a District 9 Class A girls basketball first-round playoff game Tuesday night in Emporium.

The Falcons (12-11) outscored the Raiders 17-11 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. A-C Valley lost in its first playoff appearance since the 2011-12 season.

Sadie Longo (19 points), Erin Logue (11), Danielle Kaufman (11) and Ellie Thompson (10) all scored in double figures for A-C Valley.

Boys basketball

Union used a strong third quarter and a key defensive play late to beat Johnsonburg 49-48 in a first round District 9 Class A playoff game Tuesday night on the road.

Cole Morris led the ninth-seeded Golden Knights (13-10) with 23 points.

Lane Cicciarelli also scored 12 points for Union.

The Golden Knights missed two free throws with 11 seconds left and stole a pass to preserve their win.

Private Schools

The First Baptist Christian School girls basketball team beat Hillcrest Christian Academy 45-25 in the first round of the SWCAC playoffs.

Lydia Roth scored 14 points, 14 rebounds and had three blocks for First Baptist.

Hannah Roth (11 points) and Casey Hall (13 rebounds) also contribued to FBC's wins.

First Baptist Christian 56, Wilson Christian Academy 34 — Trevor Barnhart scored 24 points, grabbed 21 rebounds and had six steals in FBC's win.

Javier Iglesia had nine points, seven assists and six steals.

Wilson Christian had been undefeated in the SWCAC's West Division.

FBC 50, North Street Christian 29 — Barnhart had 24 points, 18 rebounds and eight assists, Cameron Karnes 10 points and nine rebounds, Hirschy Kirkwood six points and 11 rebounds.

FBC's junior varsity defeated Community Alliance Church, 49-25, as Aaron Drake had 21 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists, Nate Errington 13 points, 19 rebounds and four steals.

Penn Christian Academy (boys) 50, New Castle Christian 25 — Jacob Cross scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Landen Strawn had 11 points, David Bocci 10.

PCA 26, Portersville Christian 25 — Bocci scored 12 points, Landen Strawn six.
