CRANBERRY TWP — A accident occurred about 8 a.m. that impacted traffic on heavily-traveled Route 19.

A Ford City man driving a Chevy sedan south on Route 19 apparently attempted to turn onto Rowan Road and collided with a large pickup truck that was headed north on Route 19, township police said.

One witness said the car was smoking heavily from the engine compartment and Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Department firefighters responded to extinguish the fire in the vehicle.

The driver of the Chevy suffered unknown injuries and was taken to UPMC.
