Paul Murphy

Paul M. Murphy, 90, of Butler passed away at 1:40 a.m. Monday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born on Jan. 23, 1925, in Portersville, to the late John Murphy and Mary Hilliard Murphy.

Paul started work in 1946 at Armco Steel and worked in the same department, North Processing, for 41 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class.

Mr. Murphy was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams, but his biggest hobby was keeping updated stats for the Butler High School basketball teams, for which he rarely missed a game, home or away.

Paul is survived by his wife, Amy Murphy, who he married on June 30, 1947; his two daughters, Betty Staley-Dickey and her husband, Bill, and Nancy Daw, both of Butler; his son, Don Murphy and his wife, Suzan, of Sarver; his three grandsons, Robert Staley Jr., Robbie Daw and Brian Paul Staley; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons-in-law, Robert Staley Sr. and Robert Daw; his daughter-in-law, Betty Murphy; his brother, Robert Murphy; and his sister, Doris LeRoy.

Murphy— The friends of Paul M. Murphy, who passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Pastor David Maitland, Pastor Sam McNamara and Pastor Todd Wentworth of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.Memorials are suggested to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001, or to the First Baptist Church, 221 W.
