Star Studded:Movie makers film at BMH

Goodman, Arkin members of cast

Hollywood returns to Butler Memorial Hospital today as crews will be on site to film scenes for “Let it Snow.”

The Christmas movie will star Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Ed Helms, Diane Keaton, Anthony Mackie, Amanda Seyfried, June Squibb, Marisa Tomei and Olivia Wilde.

The film is primarily being shot in Pittsburgh, where the plot is set.

Pete Silbermann, a production publicist, said much of the cast will be at Butler Memorial for filming, which will last until Wednesday.

“There will be noticeable presence of the full cast, which will be filming at the hospital, as well as the crew,” Silbermann said in an e-mail.

Full scenes will be shot in the hospital, which will be called “First Butler Health System” in the film.

“The hospital will absolutely end up in the film,” Silbermann said. “We are filming all over the hospital including the lobby, the lab, waiting room, elevator, gift shop, various units of the hospital, nurses’ stations, nursery, etc.”

It is the second film to shoot at the hospital in three months.

Crews for “Concussion” starring Will Smith were there in November to shoot in the lab.

That movie is about Dr. Bennet Omalu, a former Allegheny County forensic pathologist who was the first to connect football players and chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative disease found in people with a history of multiple concussions and head injuries.

“Let it Snow” follows “the exasperated members of an extended family as they attempt to gather for their annual Holiday celebration,” according to a release by CBS Films. Silbermann said the hospital had the right look.

“The hospital was found by our location scouts and selected for its look and accessibility,” Silbermann said. “It works perfectly for the look and visual need of the film.”

Silbermann said while the film crews will be at the hospital for about a week, daily operations will not be impacted.

“The entire hospital has been extraordinarily cooperative, accommodating, generous and kind,” he said. “The film crew, while it will have a presence, is completely mindful that we are filming in a working hospital and will act in accordance to that reality, with the patients’ comfort and privacy.”

The film is to open in theaters Nov. 13.
