Fire this morning damages Lancaster Twp house

LANCASTER TWP — Firefighters early this morning extinguished a blaze at a home on Stone Church Road.

Chief Neal Nanna of the Harmony Volunteer Fire Company said the electrical fire started in the wall by the back entrance of the single-story house at 285 Stone Church Road.

“We had to take siding out,” Nanna said.

He said a staple meant to hold up an electrical wire was inserted through the wire instead.

“It just picked this time to short out,” Nanna said.

Getting to the fire was the hard part. Nanna said snow made it difficult to travel on the roads to the house, which is at the edge of Harmony’s coverage area.

“It was terrible,” he said.

No one was injured.

Nanna estimated damages at $10,000. He said the homeowners, the Hiles family, are insured.

About 20 firefighters responded to the 2:07 a.m. 911 call. The Connoquenessing, Prospect and Zelienople volunteer fire departments assisted Harmony.

Crews cleared the scene at 4:41 a.m.
