Barry A. Kurnik
Barry A. Kurnik, 78, of Butler passed away Nov. 30 in Butler.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Violet Lucas Kurnik. He was born in Labelle, Pa., on June 7, 1936.
He graduated from Bentleyville High School in 1954 and from Purdue University in 1958 with a major in bacteriology. He was microbiology supervisor at St. Mary's Medical Center in Racine, Wis., for 15 years where he also taught microbiology to medical technology students at Marquette University. He attended special seminars at both the University of Moscow in Moscow, USSR, and at the University of Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico. His name appeared in the Who's Who in America for five years in a row.
Mr. Kurnik worked as a microbiologist at Butler Memorial Hospital beginning in 1977 and retiring in 2001. He also has been a very active member of the Butler Mental Health Association where he worked as a volunteer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joseph of Lansdale.
He is survived by one sister, Eileen Shemasek of East Liverpool, Ohio, as well as one niece and three nephews.
KURNIK — Barry A. Kurnik, who died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, will be interred at Mon Valley Memorial Park in Donora.Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of Pennsylvania.
