Police need help in identifying dead woman

ECONOMY, BEAVER COUNTY — Police here are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman whose embalmed, severed head was found earlier this month on the side of a road.

Police said at a news conference at the Economy Borough municipal building that the woman appeared to be in her 50s with curls of gray hair. She was white.

A resident walking along Mason Road, which is only several miles from Cranberry Township, found the severed head in a wooded area near the side of the road. Police said the road is not heavily traveled.

Police added that the head had been embalmed, which is a procedure for a body being preserved for viewing purposes.

Because of that embalming, police said they’ve been in contact with funeral homes and cemeteries in the area to see if there have been have disturbances to graves.

Police have no leads in the case and said they need the public’s help in identifying the woman.

Anyone with information is urged to call 724-876-0380.
