Parade kicks off holiday in Zelienople, Harmony

Rachel Carmella marches with the Seneca Valley High School Pom Poms in the 2013 Zelienople Christmas Parade.

ZELIENOPLE — The borough will hold its annual Christmas parade Saturday.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. on High Street near the Zelienople Community Library and travel north on Main Street ending at the intersection of Main Street and Grandview Avenue.

“It's been around for as long as I can remember,” said Neal Jackson, who coordinates the event for the Harmony Zelienople Chamber of Commerce Business Association.

The parade will be led by the Seneca Valley Marching Band and features Santa Claus, fire trucks, floats from community organizations and churches, and performing groups.

Santa's house will be set up in the southeast corner of the Four Corners Park, and St. Nick will visit with children for about an hour following the parade.

Starting Dec. 8, Santa will be in the house in the corner park from 6 to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 5 to 8 p.m. Sundays with the final day being Dec. 23.

The visits are free and families will have the option to donate $5 to have a photograph taken.

The borough offers free parking for the holiday season. From Nov. 30 to Dec. 26, all meters in the borough will be bagged.
