Singer joins county symphony for holiday concert

Singer and actress Michele Ragusa will perform with the Butler County Symphony Orchestra at its annual Holiday Concert on Dec. 6.

BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will perform its annual Holiday Concert on Dec. 6 featuring singer and actress Michele Ragusa.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

Ragusa has performed with Butler symphony conductor Matthew Kraemer before, in concert stagings of “The Music Man,” “Funny Girl” and most recently “Kiss Me Kate,” with the Buffalo Philharmonic.

She has starred with Marvin Hamlisch at the Kennedy Center and has headlined with symphonies in Kansas City, Chautauqua, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Baltimore and Toronto as well as with the Long Island, Naples and Abilene philharmonics.

She was last seen starring on Broadway in Mel Brook’s “Young Frankenstein” as Elizabeth, succeeding Megan Mullally.

She won the Barrymore Award and received both Lortel and Drama League nominations for her performance as Corinna in Christopher Durang’s “Adrift In Macao” at Primary Stages-NYC and most recently starred in the premiere of “Radio Girl” at the Goodspeed Opera House with music by “Dreamgirls” composer Henry Kreiger.

Tickets for the Dec. 6 concert are available at the symphony office, 259 S. Main St., by calling 724-283-1402, or at ShowClix.com.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students, plus a handling fee of $3 per adult ticket and $1.50 per student ticket if purchased through the ShowClix website. There is a handling fee of 50 cents per ticket for tickets purchased at the symphony office or at the door.

The additional concert that was originally scheduled for Dec. 7 at Mars High School has been canceled.

The symphony association’s 25th annual Holiday Tour of Homes also will be Dec. 6. Six homes will be available on the self-guided tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tickets are $15 in advance at the symphony office, May’s Music Shoppe and Meridian Gift shop, and on the day of the tour at any of the houses.
