Jackson Twp. gets new gas station, convenience store

JACKSON TWP — A new Speedway gas station and convenience store will be open next year in the township.

The township supervisors Thursday night approved the conditional use and land development permit for the station.

It will be at the northwest corner of Lindsay Road and Route 19 with access points on Lindsay Road and Jackson Lane.

The development includes 20 pumps and a 3,900-square-foot Speedy Café. The application estimated the cost of construction to be $2 million.

Construction will begin in the spring of 2015, and it will be completed and open no more than 90 days later, said Rusty Young of Speedway.

The store will employ 30 to 40 part-time and full-time staff and will serve primarily individual consumers, not tractor trailers.

Township Supervisor Ron Lutz said he had never visited a Speedway station, but saw similarities to Sheetz.

“It’ll have what we call a Speedy Café with some of the same things you see in Sheetz, making fresh sandwiches, those types of things as well as already prepared foods and then of course just convenience items,” Young said.

“In the gas station world, we’re not a real gaudy type of an operation. It’s real clean and crisp.”

Speedway, which is owned by Marathon Petroleum, bought the 2.91 acres for the station from the Buncher Co., which was planning to develop it as a part of Phase II of Jackson’s Pointe.
